A memorial service for William E. "Gene" Long, Sr., of Columbia, will be held at 2PM on Wednesday July 1, 2015 at Wildewood Downs, 731 Polo Rd, Columbia, SC, 29223 with Dr. George Crow officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Forsyth Memorial Park, Winston-Salem, NC.
Mr. Long passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the age of 92. Born on July 11, 1922 in Winston-Salem, NC he was the son of the late Charles and Rosa Hinkle Long. Mr. Long was a member of Northeast Presbyterian Church and was retired from Burlington Industries, where he served for 37 years as an Industrial Engineer. Among his many interests, he most enjoyed the Kiwanis Club, Investment Club and of course his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Rosemary (Richard) Guffy; son, William E. Long, Jr.; grandchildren, Alan Guffy, Sharon Guffy, William E. Long, III, and Catie Long; sister-in-law, Virginia Long; numerous nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Vera N. Long; brothers, Frederick and Ralph Long; daughter-in-law, Leann Long.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northeast Presbyterian Church, 601 Polo Road, Columbia, SC 29223 or to a charity of one’s choice.
