John Howard Spring, 63, of Elgin, South Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 15. He was born July 23, 1952, in Dennison, Ohio, son of Dean and Dorothy Spring. He was a graduate of Claymont High School Class of 1970 and Kent State University. John had a 43-year career in the steel industry in Ohio and South Carolina, most recently serving as director of operations for Consolidated Systems, Inc., in Columbia. John was a member of Northeast Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina.
A former resident of Dennison, John was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Uhrichsville, where he served as a trustee. He actively supported his family and community, serving for several years as the president of the Claymont Band Parents.
Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Sharon Adams Spring; son, Kevin Spring and his wife Erin of Copley, Ohio; daughter Julia (Spring) Richardson and her husband Daniel of Columbus, Ohio; grandsons John Porter Richardson, and Ian and Callen Spring; sisters Mary Lou (Bill) Dennis of Jewett, Ohio, Jane (Kim) Martin of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Carol (Ruben) Trono of Comfort, Texas; mother-in- law Freda Adams of Zanesville, Ohio, formerly of Scio, Ohio; sister-in-law Debra (Steve) Starkey of Zanesville, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Lawrence Adams.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Uhrichsville, 633 N. Main Street, Uhrichsville, Ohio. The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. in the church prior to the service. Arrangements were handled by Kornegay & Moseley Funeral Home in Columbia, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at the First Presbyterian Church of Uhrichsville, Ohio. Online guest book is available at www.kornegayandmoseley.com.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. at Northeast Presbyterian Church, 601 Polo Rd, Columbia. The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. in the church atrium prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sanctuary Renovation Fund at Northeast Presbyterian Church.
