Gerald Leroy “Jerry” Martin, age 66, passed away on Friday July 22, 2016 at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, SC due to his battle with bladder cancer.
He was born on April 6, 1950 in Chambersburg, PA to the late John William Henry Martin and Ruth Vivian Cline. He was one of sixteen children.
A resident of Hinesville, GA since August 1994. A retired US Army Staff Sergeant assigned to HHC DMMOC Fort Stewart, GA after 20 years on April 30, 2000. He worked at Reidsville Prison, US Logistics, Sikes Group and recently Balfour Beatty Communities. He refereed soccer for Liberty County Recreation, high schools, and traveling teams. Jerry loved soccer, fishing, family and friends. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Boston Celtic fan.
He is survived by his wife Wanda Martin of forty five years, his daughters Tammy Luce and Tawyna Gray, and son Timothy Martin; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four brothers, five sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Kornegay & Moseley Funeral Home located at 4645 Hard Scrabble Rd, Columbia, SC on Tuesday, July 26th at 10:30am followed by procession to the Fort Jackson National Cemetary where he will be laid to rest with full military honors. A memorial service for friends and coworkers will be held at the Allenhurst Church of Christ in Allenhurst, GA on Thursday July 28th at 7:00pm.
