Frederick "Fred" A. Drescher, Jr., age 83, of Ridgeway passed away Saturday, February 14, 2015 as the result of an accident on his farm. He was born August 8, 1931, in Savannah, Georgia and was a long time resident of Columbia and Ridgeway, South Carolina. Fred was preceded in death by his father, Frederick A. Drescher, Sr.; mother, Frances Ruth Ball, and his brother, Alfred Kurt Drescher.
After serving in the Merchant Marines and U.S. Navy, he worked for Keller Industries as manager and division manager until he started his own business, Atlantic Building Materials, in Blythewood, SC with his son, Fritz. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mildred "Millie" Barnes Drescher; their two wonderful children, Malynn Drescher Dale (Michael Dale) and Frederick "Fritz" A. Drescher III (Gwen Euler Drescher); two grandchildren, Lauren Drescher and Frederick "Fritz" A. Drescher IV; brother, Vincent Paul (Patricia) Drescher; 2 nephews, 1 niece and his "faithful friend" Duke. He and Millie took many ocean voyages and cruises - they loved the sea. He will be cremated and later buried at sea.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the Fairfield County EMS, Fire and Rescue and the many volunteers for their diligent and selfless rescue efforts.
