Vauline C. Johnson Obituary

A memorial service for Vauline C. Johnson, of Columbia, will be held at 2pm on Sunday, October 23, 2022, in the chapel of Kornegay & Moseley 4645 Hard Scrabble Road, Columbia, SC 29229. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

Vauline passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at the age of 74. Born on September 28, 1948, in Greenville, NC, she was the daughter of Julius R. Carney and Mary Cox. She was raised on a farm in Pactolus, NC by her grandmother Cherry, Uncle Jesse, Aunt Bea and Aunt Bettie Pearl. In her latter years she was raised by Julius and Margaret Carney. Vauline graduated from G.R. Whitfield High School in 1966 in Grimesland, NC. She graduated from North Carolina Central University in 1970 in Durham, NC. After graduating from college, she worked for Wachovia Operations Center in Greenville, NC. After 1970, Vauline held various positions in banking and procurement in Georgia, Ohio, Texas, and Maryland.

She married George M. Johnson, Sr. on July 22, 1988. They traveled around the world with the military to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, England, Holland, Belgium, and London. The loving couple welcomed the birth of a son Keiondall on September 29, 1986. Vauline retired from the South Carolina Department of Education after 29 years of dedicated service to the Office of Instructional Materials as a Program Coordinator. Vauline’s hobbies included sewing, reading, and gardening. She was an avid football fan and enjoyed watching college and professional football. Vauline enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. She received much joy from knowing that everyone loved her cooking. 

She is survived by her husband, George M. Johnson, Sr.; mother, Mary Cox; sister, RaVonda Meachem; brother, Terrelle  Carney (Johnnie); nephew, James Meachem, III (Quamesha),  great niece, Taylor Meachem; nephew, Myles Carney; great niece, Phoenix; special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Wardrick Griffin and Jeanna Honore, and many loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Keiondall V. Johnson, and parents Julius and Margaret Carney.
