A service to celebrate the life of First Sergeant Terrence“Terry” Edward Murtaugh, Retired, 80, of Columbia will be held Friday September 23, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Calvary Chapel Northeast. Burial will follow the service at Fort Jackson National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. The family has invited all to a reception following the burial at the Calvary Chapel Northeast at 3:00pm to share favorite memories of Terry.
Terry was a proud US Air Force and US Army Veteran who retired after 22 years of service. He served in the Vietnam war and later found his passion for recruiting the next generation of soldiers by being one of the top Recruiters for the US Army. His awards included Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Army Achievement Medal. After a prolonged hospitalization Terry passed away peacefully surrounded by loving caregivers and family knowing that the Lord was bringing him home.
Predeceased by parents, Stephen and Eva, sister Michelle and son John Paul. Terry is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Margaret, Son Michael (Miriam) and Daughter Kathleen Causey (David); Seven grandchildren (Joshua, Jediah, Promise, Eden, Caleb, Jacob, and Nathan) who he loved fiercely; Brother Danny (Kitty); Numerous Nieces and a Nephew.
The family would like to express their thanks to the doctors and medical staff that have taken care of Terry over the years. In honor of his military service, all who served or are serving in the military are welcome to wear their uniform to the service. All expressions of sympathy, including flowers, honorary donations to Hebron Colony Ministries, and cards are welcome.
