SSG Edward “Brad” Brautlacht Obituary

A service to celebrate the life of SSG Edward Alvin “Brad”Brautlacht will be held on Thursday, July 23rd, 2020 at 11:00am at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC.  The Rev. Ken Jackson will officiate the service.

Brad was born on April 8th, 1936 in Albany, Oregon to father George Edward Brautlacht and mother Doris Brautlacht, who predeceased him.  He had a loving sister, Donna Lee who has also predeceased him.  Brad joined the Navy and served 4 years as a Seabee before transferring to the Army where he proudly served his country until his Honorable Discharge in 1975.  During his time in the Army, Brad fought in Vietnam.  Brad continued his service to the country by working in civil service for the next 20 years at the United States Coast Guard in Curtis Bay, Maryland and Ft. Meade, Maryland.

Brad married the love of his life Lynn in 1971 and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary next year in 2021.   Together, they had one daughter named Dawn Lee who was born at Ft. Devens, Massachusetts.  When Dawn was 6 months old, the family moved to Baltimore, Maryland and lived there until 2004 until moving to South Carolina when retiring.  Although Brad moved to South Carolina to retire, he also worked at the Kershaw County Recycle Center in Elgin for 5 additional years. Brad loved to golf and bowl, but one of his favorite things to do was to spend time with his 4 grandchildren Xander, Logan, London, and Laykin.  Throughout his life, Brad never knew a stranger, he was giving, funny, and a hard worker. He loved his country and always loved to share stories of his time in the military.  Brad proudly wore his titles of a husband, father, father in law, grandfather, uncle, friend, and solider.  He will be truly be missed.

Brad is survived by his wife Lynn, his daughter Dawn (Wade), 4 grandchildren; Xander (Kiyone), Logan (Kayla), London, and Laykin; a nephew Reno Jr, nieces Carol, Tina, and Terry; grandnieces and nephews, and many friends.
