Rosa Olinda Arteaga Contrera

Rosa “Olinda” Arteaga Contreras was born on March 13, 1939 in Casapalca, Peru to Juana Rosa Contreras Torres and Sabino Arteaga Valenzuela. Olinda spent the first years of her life in Casapalca and later on her and her family moved to Lima, Peru, where she graduated from high school. She married Felix Bravo Escuvilca and they had 2 children Dante and Beatriz.
Olinda worked for her brother’s company as a custom agent for 37 years. She was independent, a hard worker, strong willed, generous and always determined to finish any task she was assigned. She could not stay still. She was a caring and protective mother. She enjoyed going to church every Sunday and during her free time she embraced her hobbies (crafts, knitting and sewing).
Olinda enjoyed walking, visiting relatives and traveling. She lived a fulfilling life which included many adventures and a miracle that saved her life when she was about 64. She visited different places in Peru, South, Central and North America, accompanied by her son’s mother in-law Maxima and Maxima’s sister Tila. She also enjoyed playing cards with Maxima and Tila as well as eating ice cream and jello.
Olinda was not scared of getting old. She took life graciously and accepted whatever it brought her. Her death was unexpected, but peaceful. She will be missed and remembered with love and a sense of humor because she was always surprising others with her unexpected actions that made others laugh without her meaning to. Olinda was preceded in death by her husband Felix Bravo and her grandson James “Joshua” Shepard. She is survived by her daughter Beatriz Sparks, her son Dante Bravo Arteaga, her brothers Daniel and Luis Arteaga Contreras and her granddaughters Claudia, Gianina, and Erika Bravo Plasencia.
