Robert William Yates, 71, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2021.
Bob was the oldest son born to William and Beatrice Yates. He graduated from West Seneca Central High School in 1968 before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. He studied Management at Community College of the Air Force. He then studied Management and Meteorology at McKendree University. He served with distinction and honor and received many awards for his service and performance as a Meteorologist. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Senior Master Sargant in 1997. During his military career Bob married Emily Mae Thatch. Together they raised two children, Katrina and Carmen. After retirement from the U.S. Air Force Bob became a U.S. Investigator for 17 years. He then went on to become a Security Officer and was at that job until he entered the hospital a few weeks ago.
Bob loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and was very involved in his church. He served as an Usher and was the head of the Safety Team. He loved the men’s ministry and enjoyed spending time with his Band of Brothers.
Survivors include his wife Emily, daughters Katrina and Carmen, and five grandchildren Mark, Trinity, Haley, Jason, and Peyton. He is also survived by his sister Peggy Hoffman, and brother Richard Yates.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30am, Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at Vive Church, 2630 Clemson Rd. Columbia, SC 29229.
Burial, with Military Honors, will follow the service at 1:00pm at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Rd. Columbia, SC 29229.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30am Wednesday morning at Vive Church.
