Robert Alan Tankersley of Blythewood passed away on Monday January 3, 2022. He was born in Lavonia, Georgia, February 25, 1927. He was a WWII Navy Veteran serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters and was a Corporal in the S. C. Highway Patrol from 1952 - 1980. He was a longtime resident of Blythewood, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, S.C. Troopers Association, the Blythewood Masonic Lodge, and numerous other groups and organizations. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, golf, Border Collies and any reason he could think of to be outside.
Mr. Tankersley is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Carolyn McClain Tankersley, two daughters, Mary Ellen T. Tobias (Robert), Lorre T. Norton (Scott) and grandson, Chase Alan Norton, all of Blythewood, nephew, Don L. Harrison (Missy) and niece, Katheryn McCollum, nephews Kenneth Tankersley (Chip), Paul Tankersley (Chuck) and niece, Melody Tankersley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Houston and Ressie Tankersley of Taylors, S. C., and brothers Kenneth and Don.
