Robert Laing

Robert Thomas Laing, 68, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away at home April 22, 2018. He was the son of the late Fred Lamar Laing and the late Frances Burnside Laing of Charleston, South Carolina. Tom grew up in Charleston and was a graduate of Porter Gaud School. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1971, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Tom was a long time employee of the First National Bank of South Carolina and its successors, where he was a municipal bond trader and underwriter. He was an active member of the North Carolina and South Carolina Municipal Bond Dealers Association. Tom served the Columbia community for several years by volunteering at Harvest Hope. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Spring Valley Country Club for many years.

Tom is survived by his brother, John Mitchell (Skipper) Laing of Wilmington, North Carolina, and stepmother Barbara B. Laing of Charleston. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth Gower Laing. 

Tom cultivated many friendships in his lifetime. A genuinely kind and witty person, he leaves us with wonderful memories and much laughter.
