Robert Emmett Clune, 84, of Columbia S.C., passed away on the morning of February 9th, 2022.
A native of New York City, Mr. Clune participated in JROTC in his earlier years and joined the US Marine Corps after high school. He retired from the Marine Corpsafter a tour in Vietnam where he was awarded a Bronze Star for valor. He later retired from the US CustomsService. Robert was a devout Christian who was active in his church and often taught Sunday school.
Mr. Robert Clune is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Elizabeth Clune, and their two children, Lisa (Mike) Sanchez and Kimberly Clune. Robert is also survived by his grandchildren, Rebekah (Tyler) South, Jonathan Sanchez, his great-grandson Thomas MichaelSouth, his sister, Pat (Bob) O’Hanlon, sister in-law, Amelia (Molly) Clune, and his nieces and nephews. Robert Clune is predeceased by his son, Robert E. CluneJr. and brother, Timothy Clune.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 19th at Spring Valley Baptist Church. Burial will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, February 22nd at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to a charity of one’s choice.
