On Monday, July 11, 2022, Norman G. W. Stewart passed away after battling unexpected illness at the age of 83 in Columbia, South Carolina.
Born May 4, 1939, in Kingston, Jamaica he is preceded by his parents George and Carmen Stewart and siblings George Stewart II, Lola Harris and Winafred Stewart.
He graduated high school in 1957 and attended technical training in Kingston where from a young age, his passion for learning and electronics drove him to pursue a career in television broadcast engineering.
During his broadcast engineer career, he worked for national television broadcasters including JBC in Jamaica and CTV in Toronto, Canada.
His entrepreneurial spirit led him to be the owner/operator of an audio/visual business in Calgary, Alberta before moving to the United States. Norman finished his career after spending more than 10 years with C-SPAN in Washington, D.C. before retiring.
His ongoing enthusiasm for automobiles, music, spicy food, and travel followed him throughout his later years. Always ready for spontaneous experiences, he enjoyed the company of his family, friends and sharing a laugh whenever he could.
Norman is survived by the love of his life of 59 years, Beverly Cecil Stewart and their four children: Sharon Stewart, Dwight (Marcia) Stewart, Michelle Stewart and Margaret (Johnny) Jones, two grandchildren, Margaret Stewart and Branden Stewart, and three great grandchildren, Sania, Demetrius and Grai.
Norman will be honored with a traditional Catholic funeral service on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at 11 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 100 Polo Road, Columbia SC 29223. Burial will follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery.
