Kathryn Gower Laing, 75, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away at home May 24, 2023, after battling cancer for several years. She was the daughter of William Kennedy Gower and Ella Rose Krug Gower of St. Petersburg, Florida. Kitty, as she was known to her many friends, grew up in St. Petersburg where she attended Northeast High School. She graduated from the University of Georgia in 1970, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Following college Kitty was a flight attendant for Trans World Airlines and later was a municipal bond trader in Columbia, Birmingham and Atlanta, working for Bankers Trust Company, The Robinson-Humphrey Company and Shearson Loeb Rhodes. Later in life she worked as a media assistant for Richland School District II. Most recently Kitty was the owner of The Exchange Consignments where she was loved by consignors and shoppers alike.
Kitty is survived by her two sisters, Beatrice Richards of Bushnell, Florida and Geraldine Lashley of Old Town, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Elizabeth Gower Laing and her former husband Robert Thomas Laing.
Kitty was a dear friend to many, who will remember her for her thoughtful ways and generous spirit. At Kitty’s request there will be no funeral service.
