John Coleman Cork, Jr.
John passed away on August 19, 2021. Born in Ware Shoals, SC, on August 1,1934, John was the son of the late John Coleman Cork and the late Margaret Massey Cork. He was a graduate of Ware Shoals High School and attended the University of South Carolina where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. After a long career with T & T Sporting Goods in Columbia, S.C., he joined Wayne Watson Company. He retired from his career as a sales representative for the southeast division of Russell Athletics, Inc.
Known for his quick wit, John was also an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, hiking and exploring the great outdoors. After retiring, he spent several summers working in the Canyon Village Store in is favorite place,Yellowstone National Park. John also traveled to Africa and down the Amazon capturing exceptional shots through his camera. He enjoyed playing the drums, drawing, painting, and photography. John also loved spending time at his second home on Edisto Island.
He is survived by his four children, Kim Williams (Frank) of Blythewood, John “Corky” Cork (Libby) of Lugoff, Peggy Gentry of Lexington and Jamie Bertram (Steve) of North Myrtle Beach, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; his sister, Margaret Collins (Bill) of Summerville. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, William “Bill” Neville Cork.
The family would like to thank their friends, extended family, Generations of Irmo and Parklane National Health Care for their support through the last ten years as John struggled with frontotemporal dementia. They are also grateful for the special care John received during his last days from the nurse on the COVID wing at NHC Parklane. A
