On Thursday October 20th 2022 we are blessed to honor the passing of Edward Joseph Kelly of Columbia South Carolina. He died at age 80. Father Kelly was a retired Major of the US Army, military chaplain, and Catholic priest. He was awarded numerous military honors including the Bronze Star. He served more than 50 years of pastoral ministry. He believed tn following the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Sermon on the Mount. He supported many Ministries throughout Columbia by serving on boards and advisory committees. He especially liked to work with young mothers and their families., the right to life groups, senior citizens and veterans. He most recently served on the boards of Birthright of Columbia and God's storehouse. He later founded the 525 Club which supports and mentors small non-profit organizations in hopes to better perform their mission and vision capabilities. He is predeceased by his parents and two brothers. He became part of an adopted local family and was lovingly known as Papa Ed to three grandsons. There will be an ecumenical celebration of life at the Kornegay & Moseley Funeral Home on Hardscrabble Road at 12:30 p.m. It will be followed by a internment with Catholic rights at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
