Beryl Muir Obituary

This is the life of a remarkable, Proverbs 31
woman.

Beryl Hycinthia Muir was born to the late
Muriel Tonsingh and Cornelius Building on
March 13 th 1924 in Kingston, Jamaica. Reared
by her beloved Aunt Mary, Beryl spent her
formative years and received her foundational
education in Duncans, Trelawny.

At the young age of 18 years, Beryl married but
was soon widowed. A young widow and
mother of two sons (Clinton and Girvan), she
was a hard worker and strove to provide a
better life for them.
She became a well-known dressmaker in
Kingston after spending years honing her skills
first as a shirt maker and later as a seamstress.
Her skills at sewing were evidenced by the
beautiful shirts and wedding gowns she made,
including those of her daughters, daughters-in-
laws and many clients. She also made dashikis
and barber shirts for the young men in the
community.

Beryl married Kelshal Muir and added three
daughters (Yvonne, Joan and Marcia) and two
sons (Errol and Donovan) to her family. She
migrated to the United States in 1969 where
she worked hard and made a way for her
husband and five younger children to join her
in the USA.
In the United States, Beryl always strived to
better herself. She started out as a housekeeper
at the Scharome Manor Senior Home. She
worked her way to telephone operator and
receptionist before retiring from there.
She completed the course and was a Certified
Nursing Assistant, started driving lessons and
continued to create beautiful clothing for
many.

Beryl was “mother” to many. She moved to
Columbia, SC after retirement. Along with her
husband they enjoyed the southern life caring
for her grandchildren. There are no words to
describe a Mama who selflessly fed, clothed,
hugged, listened and prayed for everyone who
came across her path. Beryl loved the Lord
with all her heart, loved to sing and pray.
The Everlasting Gospel Kingdom Ministries,
pastored by Pastor M. Snooks, started in her
living room. She was later ordained Elder Beryl
Muir and continued to be a member until her
death. Beryl was loved by all. She was the
epitome of a virtuous woman. A true Proverbs
31 woman. Her legacy of love, kindness,
devotion to family, warmth and deep love for
the Lord will forever be with us.

Beryl departed this life on January 16 th 2023
and left us a strong legacy to carry on. She
leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons:
Girvan (Robert), Errol (Barry - wife, Maria),
Donovan (Jr. - wife, Vivette), Daughters:
Yvonne, Joan and Marcia; 24 grandchildren,
38 great grandchildren, 13 great great
grandchildren, niece Elaine (Patsy), nephew
Michael (L.A.) as well a host of cousins and
dear friends.

We all will love and miss you forever. We thank
God for loaning you to us these 98+ years. Now
rest with your Father and loved ones in sweet
peace.
