Paul Thomas Perkins passed away July 31, 2017. The celebration of his life will be held Thursday, August 3rd, 2017 at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow in the parish hall of St. David’s Episcopal Church, 605 Polo Rd., Columbia, SC 29223. 

 

He was born in Washington, DC on January 4, 1939 to the late Stephen Paul Perkins and Dorothy Juanita Bye Perkins, originally from Lawrenceville, Illinois. 

​He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sarah DelkPerkins; a daughter, Laura Perkins Johnson (Marshall) of Greenville, SC; sons Stephen Thomas Perkins (Shawn) of Tega Cay, SC and David Gordon Perkins (Rachel) of Blythewood, SC.

 

​Also surviving are grandchildren, Stephen Thomas Perkins, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA and Rikki Bilton Williams (Kevin) of Rock Hill, SC; Thomas Locklear Johnson of Durham, NC; Gordon Heyward Perkins, William Thomas Perkins, Matthew Harris Clary, Caroline Ann Clary of Blythewood, SC; and three great-grandchildren.

 

​Raised in Arlington, VA, Tom and Sarah were in the first graduating class of Wakefield High School. Tom was an athlete playing football and running track. After high school, Tom graduated from American University in Washington, DC with a BS in Accounting. He also served in the Army, doing his basic training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC. 

 

​During college he worked at a financial institution and then started his career in financial accounting with RCA. Over the span of his career he worked with several different companies in the furniture and grocery wholesale industries. He retired in 2008 after 22 years with Thomas and Howard Company as Chief Financial Officer and Secretary-Treasurer. 

 

​Tom was a member of Columbia Rotary Club serving many years in the audit committee. Other community activities included Honor Flight of SC, State National Guard, and His Hands Ministry. He is a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry and was treasurer. 

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. David’s Cemetery Fund, the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the American Heart Association.
