Rosa Colon de Jesus was born June 4, 1932 in Pao Alto, Puerto Rico where she was raised. She then relocated and met Roberto Cabrera in New York where they married and raised their children. Years later she relocated to Columbia, SC where her daughters Gert and Rosa cared for her. She then had a brief stay at Wilmington, NC with her daughter, Aileen. She then went back to Columbia, SC with the care of her youngest daughter Gert where she rested peacefully until going Home. During the times she was relocating, her sons, Angel, Dag, Berberto and Vic were strong and encouraging to us all and to their Mami.
Mami was an amazing person. She would take $1.00 and stretch it to it's limit (especially when she went to Southern Blvd). She taught us to survive on the concrete jungle of the South Bronx in New York City. She taught us to work and be dependable. We grew up in rough situations, but as long as Mami was strong, well, nothing was wrong. She encouraged us to complete our education. She had a typical Puerto Rican sense of humor (remember the chancleta?) And well, let's not get started with her cooking skills. Food Network would not have a prayer if she competed. She was a great mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend! We will miss her.
Rosa was a faithful member of NorthStar Christian Center in Columbia, SC, Pastor Brian Thomas and when in Wilmington, NC she attended Peace Baptist Church in Wilmington, NC, Pastor Rudy Sheperd.
Rosa is survived by her children Angel Roldan, Rosita, Dagoberto Cabera, Aileen Cabrera Washington, Roberto Cabrera Jr., Victor Cabrera, Rosa Diaz, Geltrudis Wells, fifteen grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren.
