Marjorie Thompson Smith, long time resident of Camden, SC, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, at Lexington Medical Center - Extended Care, Lexington, SC. Marjorie was born in Lodge, South Carolina, on March 17, 1924, was the daughter of the late Elise Stanley Thompson and Robert Galletly Thompson of Lodge, SC.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Jack E. Smith, and brother, Jack M. Thompson. She is survived by children: Bob (Leigh) Smith of Clinton, SC, Jackie (Ron) Russell of Rock Hill, SC, Peggy (Jerry) Charles of Blythewood, SC, Debbie (Tom) Hecker of Columbia, SC; Tammy Neef of Charlotte, NC; Sherrie (Steve) Covell of Huntingtown, MD; Terrie (Pat) Stafford of Columbia, SC; and her 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Marjorie was the happiest spending time with her children whether celebrating birthdays (and there were a lot), holidays or any other excuse to get together especially if it involved a good meal! Her vegetable soup, cornbread and chicken and dumplings were often requested.
She was very friendly and never met a stranger. She believed in looking her best at all times and NEVER walked out the door without her hair done, clothes just right, “face” on and an application of her favorite lipstick “Cherries in the Snow”.
After the death of her beloved Jack over 17 years ago, her seven children watched over and took good care of her. We’re going to miss our Mama. Goodbye, Mama, Ma, Grandma, Nanny, Margie, Midge. Have fun with Daddy and Pepper, the wonder dog!
Special thanks to the staff at LMC-EC and MSA Hospice.
