Lawrence Beverly “Bev” Dakin, Sr., 90, died Thursday October 19, 2017 in Hospice at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital.  He was born to the late Clinton Percival Dakin and the late Edna Frost Dakin in Searsport, Maine on October 23, 1926.  He served in the army in Manila, Philippines during World War II.  He retired in 1991 after being employed for 41 years at Delta Chemicals.  After he retired he worked alongside his wife at Dakin Photography as videographer for many weddings throughout Waldo County.  He was also an accomplished carpenter and constructed the Charter Oak Restaurant in Searsport, ME (which later became The Yarn Shop) and actively managed the restaurant for five years.  He was a long-time member of Northport Golf Club and had a great interest in classic cars which he owned and restored.  He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Donna Rowe Dakin, his son Larry Dakin, Jr (Sandie) of Verona Island, ME, his daughter Karyn Heimes (Mark) of Columbia, SC, grandchildren, great grandson, and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Willard Dakin, Erling Dakin, Emery Dakin, Vivian Volpe, and Muriel “Dolly” Deane.  He lived a long life and was devoted to his family.   We will always remember his kindness, quiet strength, quick wit, strong work ethic and the example he set for us as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Searsport United Methodist Church, PO Box 169, Searsport, ME 04974 or Town Line Animal Shelter, 46 Baker Road, Belfast, ME 04915.  A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 3:00 pm at Searsport United Methodist Church.
