Furman Levan Shorter, 91, of Columbia, the first investigator with the SC ABC Commission, which was created in 1967, passed away Monday March 5, 2018.
Mr. Shorter, husband of the late Alice Bethune Shorter, was born in Manning, SC and was a son of the late James Canady Shorter, Sr. and Maude Aycock Shorter.
He was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church, a veteran of WWII, a member of the American Legion and the SC Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Retirees Assn. He is survived by his son Furman Terrell (Terry) Shorter of Lexington, son, Mark Dwayne Shorter of Columbia and grandchildren, Mallory Grace Shorter and Charles Wesley Shorter of Lexington; sister, Mary Shorter Todd of Sumter and brother James C. Shorter of Sumter.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon Thursday, March 8, 2018 at North Trenholm Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service at Fort Jackson National Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm prior to the service at the church.
