Remembering old soldiers like SA Donald-Weinstein...those who worked with us in CID, attended CID school and in this case later polygraph by CID and then a life in the Marines and AFOSI...the life and times of us...Don was at the polygraph school when my wife Ann ran the support staff there, saw him many times at the office and parties back in the early mid to late 80s.

Don - was the man. He will truly be missed by me. He would always say how are you doing "smiley." I missed those words already. Don was a very kind and loving person. Never spoke a negative word about anyone. He was truly a joy to be around. In his last days, I visited with him, he remained positive. Don you will be forever loved and missed by many. Although I did not serve with Don, I was well acquainted with him and had many wonderful discussions concerning USMC. I worked for Don from 2004 until his retirement as his Admin Asst. and he was truly a great supervisor, a very caring person who new his craft WELL (Polygraph/Physiology, among other things). He was also quite the wit! He was a stellar example of what good leaders are made of. As everyone here has so consistently expressed Don had one of the warmest and kindest spirit. Truly genuine. While working outside his office one of the many things I will remember about him is his signature greeting while speaking with someone on the phone, "How can I help you my friend". He had a great rapport with everyone. He cared about people and would go out his way to assist you in every way possible. He was SELFLESS. I will forever miss his infectious smile and kind spirit.

Although I only knew Don for a short time while working at the National Center for Credibility Assessment, Don made a big impression on me. Having recently separated from the Marine Corps, Don and many of the other retired Marines working at the National Center for Credibility Assessment took me under their wing and showed me how to carry myself as a civilian Marine, giving real meaning to the phrase Semper Fidelis. I often stopped in to check on our oldest Marine just to hear what he had say in the hopes of learning more from him. Don will be missed. My prayers and my respect go out to his family. Semper Fi!

Like Terry, I first met Don in January 1995 while a student at DoDPI. Because of him, he helped me learn the anatomy of a synapse; understand the creation and transmission of action potentials; and understand the difference between "Parasympathetic" and "Sympathetic" nervous systems. His dedication and tireless work with the American Polygraph Association and the Federal Polygraph Continuing Education Program no doubt helped make our profession much better and answer the challenges of our critics. Mostly, I remember him greeting me with "NedtheFed" and his warm smile. My sincere condolences go out to his family and friends. Don, thank you for your loyal service to the polygraph profession, the U.S. Government, and to the United States. We are that much safer because of your teachings and being a mentor to so many. I guess the highest compliment I can make is to travel to Columbia, SC tomorrow from Maryland to pay my respects and wish you farewell. I first met Don in the early 1970's. We played golf a few times and I quickly learned he was a man to be respected and to learn from. Over the years of my career, I eventually worked with many people that Don trained. His name was synonymous with excellence in the polygraph field. I first met Don in January 1995 @DoDPI, he was my physiology instructor. We continued to have contact via the polygraph community throughout the years. I came to NCCA in July 2006 and had the pleasure of working with Don on a daily basis. I miss seeing your smiling face and your daily greeting of "T". Don and I served together with the USMC CID, both as Criminal Investigators and Polygraph Examiners. Naturally, I followed Don's post-retirement career through his decades at USAMPS, DODPI and DACA, via conversations with him at our annual APA seminars. Don's passing is indeed a tremendous shock. I somehow memorized all the correct names of every single part of the polygraph instrument to get a "Go" for the parts-is-parts test when I first met him going to polygraph school in 1988. I was so sorry to hear the passing of Don. Of ALL the Criminal Investigators it has been my pleasure to serve with, Don was the most gentlemanly Marine whom it was my privilege to have served with. As a new Criminal Investigator Don was tasked with being the sponsor for my family when we arrived in Okinawa. Even though he was on an unaccompanied tour and really had no idea what to do with a family he took the task and made us feel like we were at home. When assigned as the duty investigator at Camp Foster for the first time and receiving a duty call off base I called Don, who was the duty investigator at Camp Hansen for advice. I had no idea where I was going since the call was off base and somewhere north of Kadena Air Base. Don, being the person he is, took the call and headed south to find out the location of the incident. After driving for awhile Don arrived at the scene which was located at Kadena Circle. Instead of being angry that I was a lot closer and should have taken the call he took care of the incident and explained the geography of Okinawa. I will never forget his smile, laugh and warmth. He will be missed.

The 12 years I've known Don, he proudly wore the title oldest Marine at the USMC birthday ceremony. He gave me the biggest compliment anyone ever has when he told me I would have "made a helluva Marine". Rest in peace oldest Marine - the torch has been passed. We will miss you.

I had the pleasure of meeting Don the first time when I attended polygraph school at Ft McClellan. He was instrumental in teaching me physiology, which is saying a lot! I then had the pleasure of working with Don when I was assigned to the polygraph school as an instructor from 1999-2008. I respected Don. Like many have already said, he is a legend in our profession and a significant loss. Don was a kind man and I learned so much from him. My sympathies go out to Paula and their entire family. Don, you will be missed my friend.

No monument of bronze and stone will be erected to mark Don’s passing. His monument consists of hundreds of students who constitute the next generation of polygraph examiners. He passed to them the sum of his wisdom, knowledge and experience to guide them into the future. His legacy will continue to live long after mere stone crumbles to dust.

Don was a great friend and colleague. It was always good to be around Don. He seemed to find a way to put a positive spin on just about anything - a trait that few have and all appreciate. I will miss his familiar greating: "Hello Counselor." My deepest sympaties to Paula and Don's family.

Don was always a mentor to me. When we served together at Albany, GA, he was so energetic and never too busy for others. When we served together in California, he was a comfort in a storm for me. He was all those things you look for in a friend, a leader, and a Marine. He was one of the most decent men I've ever known.

Don was one of the kindest and friendliest men I have ever known. He always brought a smile to me each morning he walked past my office and said, "Hi Deb". When my father had open heart surgery, Don spoke with my dad to tell him what to expect and let him know that everything would be alright. I will always remember Don and value our friendship.
