David F. “Buddy” Lucas Obituary

David F. “Buddy” Lucas, 85, passed away on October 23, 2019 in Columbia, SC after a lengthy fight with cancer. While Buddy lost the battle here on earth, he won the war as he is now in heaven with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born August 6, 1934 to the late David & Verna Jean Lucas in Columbia, SC.  After high school, Buddy enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a paratrooper.  After the army, he owned and operated an Exxon service station. Later he worked for RC Motor Lines and Safety KleenCorporation as a long-haul driver. He drove over threemillion safe miles before retiring.  Buddy was a sports fan, enjoying NASCAR, baseball and college football – specifically the Southeastern Conference and the South Carolina Gamecocks, though he was a bigger fan some years more than others.  He loved fishing, home improvement projects (done correctly), old school country music, and working on his “story” entitled Down Home.  Buddy was a member of Spring Valley Baptist Church and The Way Sunday School class. He loved the Lord and his family. He was fond of the themed monthly Family Fun Nights they held. He was especially proud of his numerous best costume wins for October family nights.

Buddy is survived by his wife of 60 years, Polly Lucas; their five daughters Cindy (Harry) Holloman of Lexington, Janet (Johnny) Frick of Blythewood, Donna (Dale) Jones of Columbia, Karen (William) Price of Columbia, Diane Starnes of Irmo;  grandchildren Steven and Bryan Bush, Christopher, Lauren and Ashley Jones, Grace Price, Ava and Savannah Starnes;great grandson Jonah; sisters Carolyn Webb of Tampa,Florida, Faye (Wade) Thompson of Lexington, SC, Jean Dew of Fayetteville, NC and several nieces and nephews and his long time neighbor and dear friend, Marc Cobb. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son-in-law Micheal Starnes, and brothers-in-law Bill Webb and Jimmy Dew.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 27 atKornegay & Mosley Funeral Home, 4645 Hardscrabble Road, Columbia, SC from 4:00 – 6:00pm.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 28 at 11 am at Spring Valley Baptist Church, 91 Polo Road, Columbia, SC with burial to follow in Ft.
