Joseph F. W. Anderson Obituary

Joseph F. W. Anderson went home to sit at the feet of his Lord and Savior Jesus the Messiah on Sunday, January 3, 2021. He was born February 17, 1938 in Camden, SC to the late Joe R. and Annie Christmas Anderson, raised by his maternal grandparents the late Furman and Fannie Gardner Christmas. In school and around Camden he was known as Jody Christmas, until he joined the Air Force. The Air Force took him to Texas, Wyoming and Alaska where he met and married his first wife, Joyce Holifield Anderson of 31 years, until her death in1991. They were the first couple issued a marriage license in Anchorage Alaska. He worked as a retail clerk until the1964 earthquake and then as a custodian of Muldoon Road Baptist Church. He came to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior on the second Sunday of April, 1972. 
After returning to the lower 48 in 1977 he worked for Wheel Truing tool company, until retiring in 2001. He married Betty Jo Shealy, February 14, 1992. They joined Spring Valley Baptist Church in1993. Over the years Joe served as Sunday School Director, deacon, deacon chairman, men’s ministry director and building/grounds committee. He sang in the worship choir for more than 20 years, where he served as section leader, librarian, vice president and president.  He sang in the valley voice senior adult choir from its inception to his going home.  He is survived by his wife of 29 years,  “six love children'', Melody (Bill) Hughes, Little Starr (Randy) Haas, David (Karen) Shealy, Phillip (Linda) Shealy, Kim Roach and Claire New; daughter in law, Libby Anderson; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; brothers,  J. Jart (Rosie) Anderson of Bethune and David (Teeni) Anderson of Cassett; sisters Thelma Bodiford and Mary McCaskill Brown of Cassett. Joe was preceded in death by Joyce Anderson and sons, Joseph W., Gary N and C. Scott Anderson, sisters Bobbie McCaskill and Francis Jones.
A private family only Service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Spring Valley Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Winburn officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, with military honors.
