Lorraine (Meda) Kimble

Lorraine Meda Kimble entered into the presence of our Lord early Monday morning, May 6, 2019.  Lorraine was born on July 22, 1949, to her parents, Ivan and Edna Montague in Big Rapids Michigan. She and her husband moved to Columbia SC in 1972.

Lorraine was employed in her early years by Hobart and later by Whirlpool manufacturing, and for 43 years she was dedicated to the care of their special needs son, Mikie. Lorraine came to know, trust, and love the Lord Jesus Christ later in life, and was motivated to express that love in the way that she cared for Mikie and her mother-in-law in her battle with Alzheimer’s. 

Lorraine had a special love for animals and had rescued numerous cats and dogs, and even adopted a handicapped parakeet with only one leg. She even rescued a wounded baby squirrel and nourished it back to health until it could return to the wild.

She was involved with her husband and neighbors in the Seminary Ridge Neighborhood Association and loved being part of the selection process for Yard of the Month. She loved her flower and water gardens and many house plants. She enjoyed many morning walks through the neighborhood with her husband.

In recent years she fell in love with tent camping in the mountains in the national parks on the Blue Ridge Parkway with her husband. While she was able, she enjoyed riding on the back of her husband’s motorcycle taking video images of the winding mountain roads.

She didn’t know any strangers and tried to be a friend to everyone. She will be sorely missed by many. She had many Facebook friends all over the country and loved to send not only electronic greeting cards but cards through the mail as well. She would spend hours coloring and personalizing birthday and get well cards.

She loved collecting refrigerator magnets from all over the world. While she had not traveled far and wide, she had friends that would collect them for her.

Lorraine is survived by her husband of 48 years, Michael F. Kimble of Columbia SC, brother-in-law Thomas (Mary) Kimble, and his children and various other family members and a loving church family. Lorraine was preceded in death by her son, Michael “Mikie” Lee Kimble, and parents Ivan and Edna Montague.

The family expresses their gratitude to the various people that walked with her during her courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, particularly our friends and neighbors that took the time to simply sit with her, her friends and family at Eau Claire Presbyterian Church and Hope Church of Columbia, and the many health care workers on the oncology floor at Lexington Medical Center.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on May 16, 4 pm, at Hope Church, 2609 Seminole Rd, Columbia SC 29210, Pastor Don Barnett, Jr. will be officiating.
