We mourn the loss of Dr. Thomas John Blumer.
Friend, Father, Grandfather, devout Catholic and Catawba Historian.
Tom was a man who dedicated a large part of his life to a passionate study of the Catawba Native American tribe of South Carolina. He was instrumental in the revival of Catawba pottery.
Tom was a collector of Native American, Folk, and African art. He was also a talented artist, painting religious icons as well as secular works.
Tom is survived by his partner and Godson, Robert PatrickSmith, his daughters, Theresa Ann Marie Blumer Sahhar; Susannah June Marie Blumer Pangelinan; Mary Margaret Guadalupe Blumer Chargois; and John Jacob Robert Lee Blumer, thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren, as well as his faithful dog Dalilah.
We shall miss Tom’s voice, his laugh, and his charm. He was truly a fun and unique man.
