A visitation for Rebecca Burgess Rogers, of Columbia, will be held from 6-8pm on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Kornegay & Moseley. The family will have a private burial on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Columbia Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), The American Friends Service Committee or a charity of one’s choice.
Mrs. Rogers passed away Sunday, December 14, 2014 at the age of 74. Born in Asheville, NC, on January 10, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Burgess and Kate Middleton Burgess. Rebecca was the past clerk of The Columbia Monthly Meeting Religious Society of Friends, past director of Carolina Peace Resource Center, and listening project coordinator and trainer of the Rural Southern Voice for Peace. She lived a life of service to human and civil rights, both locally and globally.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Harry; children, Kimberly (Fred) Gray and Trey (Carri) Rogers; grandchildren, Gabrielle, Lyndsay and Mason Gray, and Hannah Rogers; sister, Sandy (Reid) Pannill. Rebecca was preceded in death by her brother, David Burgess.
