A service to celebrate the life of Paul B. "Top" Moorehous, 81, of Elgin will be held at 12:30 pm Thursday October 12, 2017 in the chapel of Kornegay & Moseley with Rev. Dr. Mark Bredholt officiating. Burial will follow the service at Fort Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation or the Wounded Warrior Project.
Mr. Moorehous passed away Sunday October 8, 2017 in Providence Hospital. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and was the son of the late Carl J. Moorehous and Annabelle F. Siefert. Mr. Moorehous retired from the US Army after 24 years of service where he received the National Defense Medal, 2 Bronze Stars with two oakleaf clusters, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Parachutist Badge, 3 Purple Hearts , Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal. Mr. Moorehous and his platoon in Vietnam were the subject of the movie Platoon that was directed by Oliver Stone . The Moorehous name is heard in the movie 5 times . Even though Paul was not in the movie his last name was used by Oliver Stone as a tribute to Paul for his personal experiences in Vietnam .The 25th Infantry , Tropical Lighting Division . He enjoyed boating and fishing and times he spent with his family and friends at his Lake House on Lake Murray. Mr. Moorehous was the owner and operator of Metro Heating and Air for over 30 years.
Mr. Moorehous is survived by his loving wife, Irma Moorehous; children, Dennis (Maggie) Moorehous, Andrea Moorehous, Gary P. (Sherrie) Moorehous, Sr. and Tracy Moorehous with Hank The Tank their 4 legged fury companion , grandchildren, Ryan Paul Windhorn, and Gary Paul Moorehous, Jr.; siblings, David ( Barbara )Moorehous, Dennis L. ( Ginny ) Moorehous, Diane Watkins and Debbie Moorehous; Numerous nieces and nephews who reside in Cincinnati Ohio and Germany ..Mr. Moorehous is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Earl J. Moorehous.
