Never Goodbye
How do you say goodbye to the one…
Who knew you before your first breath
Who caught you before you stumbled
Who encouraged your first step.
How do you say goodbye to the one
That held you close when you were sick
That rocked you when you couldn’t sleep
That took you on your first picnic.
How do you say goodbye to the one
Who taught you to share your toys
Who showed you how to color within the lines
Who cautioned you about the boys.
How do you say goodbye to the one
That walked you to your first day of school
That urged you to play the piano and sing in the choir
That taught you to swim and dive in a pool.
How do you say goodbye to the one
Who taught you about sticks and stones
Who said you were pretty when you were plain
Who taught you about rights and wrongs.
How do you say goodbye to the one
That made all your pretty school dresses
That are still remembered to this day
That made you feel a little like a princess.
How do you say goodbye to the one
Who you’ve always called your mother,
You don’t. You hold her as tight as you can
And tell her how much you love her.
How will I live without her? I won’t.
Because I will be living all those lessons
That she taught me and so much more
For the rest of my days. I love you mom.
Your daughter, Kim
