Mr. John “Jay” James Wedeking was born July 31st,1949 in Manhasset, New York to the late Hans and Edith Wedeking.

Jay unexpectedly passed while walking to support the Richland County K-9 Unit at the Guardians of the Night Fundraiser. He was an avid volunteer in the Columbia area supporting The American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, God’s Storehouse, NE and Blythewood Chambers of Commerce and the Watchdogs at North Springs Elementary. He was a member at NewSpring Church and a veteran.

 

He is survived by: his wife Cheryl Wedeking, Daughters Malia Ropel and Sarah Johnson, Son-In-Laws Dan Ropel and Michael Johnson, Niece Erica Wedeking and Nephew Brian Wedeking, Grandchildren Haley, Ainsley, Riley and Declan. His time with us was too short and he will be dearly missed.

He was predeceased by: his parents Hans “John” and Edith Wedeking, and his brother and sister-in-law Richard and Doreen Wedeking.

Jay’s home going service will be held at 5:30 pm Thursday August 4, 2016 in the chapel of Kornegay & Moseley with Pastor Robbie Green officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday August 3, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. 

In Lieu of Flowers, please consider a monetary donation to the Richland County K-9 unit or a donation of blood or platelets to the American Red Cross.
