Mrs. Jeannette F. (Roy) DuBois, 78, formerly of Waterville, ME passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Palmetto Health Hospice in Columbia, SC.  Her funeral Services will be held at 12:00pm, on Friday, October 21, 2016 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 100 Polo Road, Columbia, SC.  The family will receive friends and family from 7:00pm to 9:00pm on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Kornegay & Moseley Funeral Home, 4645 Hardscrabble Road in Columbia.

Mrs. DuBois was the daughter of the late Hilary Roy and Aurella Roy.  She was born on July 30, 1938 in Waterville, Maine where she attended school and graduated from Waterville High School in 1956.  She was united in Holy Matrimony to her beloved husband Jean B.C. DuBois on April 12, 1958, in Waterville, Maine.  God graciously blessed their lives with three children, 6 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.  Mrs. DuBois was devoted to her family and spent many years volunteering in different capacities wherever her children could be found.  Whether she was volunteering at school or as the Arts and Crafts Director for the Summer Parks and Recreation Program, as a Girl Scout Troop Leader or a Girl Scout Summer Camp Leader, she was always focused on the children entrusted to her and sought to develop a love for learning, adventure, life and the outdoors.

Mrs. DuBois was gifted artistically and creatively and could often be found sharing those talents through her business, Jean’s Ceramics, which she owned and operated for 10 years.  She taught many classes at her in-home studio and enjoyed developing her own skills and techniques through seminars and workshops.  She frequently encouraged her students to join her in entering their ceramic pieces into competition at ceramic shows.  Mrs. DuBois was awarded the Peggy Award for best in show in the professional division for a vase she created that has long been a family treasure.

Once her children were grown, Mrs. DuBois attended the University of Maine in Augusta and Orono where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Social Services.  She excelled in college as a non-traditional student and was inducted into the Alpha Beta Omicron Nu Honor Society on November 3, 1983.  She was again honored on January 9, 1984 when she was conferred upon one of the most prestigious awards the academic community can bestow — selection to Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges.  Upon graduation, Mrs. DuBois dedicated herself for many years to children, Veterans and those in need through her work as a social worker for Kennebec Valley Mental Health, the Maine Veterans Home and Dorn VA (SATU).  She retired from the VA in 1998.  Once retired, Mrs. DuBois found great enjoyment in rekindling her creative flare and her love for sewing.  She began taking quilting classes and joined a ladies quilting guild.  Making quilts, blankets, curtains, table runners and more for family and loved ones became her passion. There was never a project she wasn’t willing to undertake and she lovingly shared her talent and gift with her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and anyone in need.

Mrs. DuBois loved to spend time with family, laughing and always smiling.  She was thoughtful and kind, a devoted wife, a loving mother, a doting grandmother and great-grandmother.  Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her husband of 58 years, Jean BC DuBois.  Children: Daniel (Kim) DuBois of Kaneohe, HI; Donna (David) Harring of Fredericksburg, VA, and  BettyAnn (Stephen) Barrett of Columbia, SC.  Grandchildren: Kenneth (Brooke) Harrington of Asheville, NC, Matthew (Nathalie) DuBois of Murrieta, CA, Joshua DuBois of Kaneohe, HI, Jordan Byrne of Columbia, SC,  Sophie-Grace Barrett of Columbia, SC, David (Maryann) Harring of Fredericksburg, VA, and Christopher (Carrie) Barrett of Chapin, SC.  Great-grandchildren: David Barrett, Luke Barrett, Joey Barrett, Noah Harring, Lilly Barrett, Ethan Harring, and James Dare Parker and many devoted nieces, nephews and friends.  She was preceded in death by her brother Reginald Roy of Englewood, Florida.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the doctors, nursing team, chaplains, and social workers at Palmetto Health Hospice and the Palmetto Health Richland Hospital Oncology Nursing and support staff.
