January 15, 1938 ~ February 12, 2017 (age 79) 79 Years Old

James Edward Brown, 79, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away, Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Palmetto Heath Richland Hospital.  A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Kornegay & Moseley Funeral Home Chapel.  Pastor James ”J” W Thompson, III will be officiating. Burial will follow at Noon in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at the funeral home. James was born January 15, 1938 in Pickens, South Carolina to Sarah and James Milton Brown. He graduated from Pickens High School in 1956.  He served as Airman First Class as a Crew Chief from 1956 to 1960 and served 2 years active Reserve after discharge.   James was Trooper First Class with the South Carolina Highway Patrol from 1968 to 1989.  James continued to serve as a South Carolina State Constable until his death.  On September 2, 1960, he married Priscilla Diane Harris in Albany, Texas. He enjoyed deer hunting, gun collecting and sports.

James is survived by his wife, Diane; daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Rick Morrissey of Knoxville, TN; granddaughters, Cortney Weaver of Columbia, SC and Amanda Pierson of Clinton, SC; grandson, Taylor Hanayik of Columbia, SC; and his siblings and their families; Fred and Carolyn Brown of Easley, SC, Sue and Jerry Gardo of Easley SC, and Shirley Day of Pickens SC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah and Milton Brown, his sister, Marie Brown and his daughter Deanna Lynn Pierson.
