Grace C. Valdivieso, of Columbia, wife of the late Dr. Jose G. Valdivieso, peacefully passed away on February 10, 2015.
Born on April 29, 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Rose Carter. Grace was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Cleveland, Ohio, and went on to earn a Master’s of nursing degree from the University of South Carolina-Columbia. She enjoyed her career as a nurse and worked as a home health nurse for SC DHEC, head nurse at the Dorn Veteran’s Hospital nursing home, and finally as manager at DMERC in the medical review department, which she retired from in 2007. She was a loving nurse and mother, and she will be missed by many.
Surviving are her son, Jose L. Valdivieso of Chapin, SC, her daughter, Serena Valdivieso of Atlanta, GA, and her brother, Richard Carter of Sandia Park, New Mexico. She also leaves behind her faithful and beloved companions Lucho, Rosa and Bella.
A private remembrance will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pawmetto Lifeline, Columbia, SC or Harvest Hope Food Bank, Columbia, SC.
