Eunice Lorene Phelps

Eunice Lorene Phelps, 62, of Orlando, FL passed away at Florida Hospital South in Orlando, FL on August 23, 2015. Eunice was born in Eastover, SC, on January 28, 1953. She was one of six children of Willie Thomas Campbell and Lorene Owens Campbell. She graduated from Lower Richland High School in Columbia, SC, received her Bachelor of Science from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA, and her Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy from Life Christian University in Tampa, FL. In her younger years, she was very active in Beauty Pageants and won the titles of Ms. South Carolina USA and later, Mrs. Central Florida. She started her professional career with the Department Store, Davidson’s, in Columbia, SC. She was recruited by Revlon Corporation and quickly advanced through numerous management positions before accepting the position as Sr. District Manager for Playtex Incorporated where she was responsible for over $250,000,000 in annual sales. In 1991 (at the age of 38) she married the “Love of Her Life” (as she often stated) Steve L. Phelps. Together they had two incredible children, Joshua Stephen Phelps, 22, and Eunice Loreanna Phelps, 20. Eunice spent the majority of her married life being a devoted wife and nurturing mother. She was committed to sharing her Life Long Christian Values, love of God, Family and Country into her marriage and the rearing of her children. She also became an accomplished Author, completing 3 books and was well known in the Christian and Civic Communities as a Life Coach, Lecturer, and Counselor.  She served the Orange County Detention Center as a motivational Speaker, providing numerous Seminars and Events. She developed an extensive personal development seminar entitled “Beyond The Basics” for adult and teenage women. She served on the Board of Directors and was a major benefactor for “Teen Challenge” a faith-based substance abuse organization in Sanford, FL. She was extremely proud that one of the primary buildings at the Sanford, FL campus was dedicated and named after her late mother as “Lorene Campbell Hall”. She was a licensed Minister, a certified instructor for Crown Financial Ministries, and was very active directing and organizing Women’s Ministries for several churches throughout the Southeast. One of her major passions, as her children progressed into their teen years, was scouting. She assisted and encouraged her daughter, Loreanna, to reach the highest level of Girl Scouts as a “Gold Award” recipient and assisted and supported her son, Joshua, to reach the highest level of Boy Scouts as an “Eagle Scout”. During this process, this former beauty queen who had never been camping in her life, become actively involved with the Osceola District and the Central Florida Counsel of Boy Scouts of America. She was a recipient of Commissioner’s Key award, The Arrow head award, The Central Florida Council Commissioner of the year award and earned a Doctor of Commissioner Science. At the 2001 Central Florida Council Annual Recognition Banquet she received the counsel’s highest award as a “Silver Beaver”. Above all, she adored her husband, Steve and committed her life to being the best wife, companion and life-partner she could be. She is survived by her husband, her two children, her sister, Willie DeLorees Mock of Eastover, SC and her sister Deddie Ragsdale, of Gadsden, SC.  

A graveside will be held at 4pm on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd, Columbia, SC 29209.
