Dr. Barbara (Brown) Ullman

Barbara Brown Ullman, 78, of Columbia, SC passed away September 12, 2017. Visitation will be held from 6pm - 8pm on Friday, September 15th at  Kornegay & Moseley. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 16th at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Born on December 14, 1938, in Port Royal, SC, Barbara was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mabel Petit Brown. She attended high school at Beaufort High and went on to attend Furman University, class of 1961. She graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC, in 1965. She completed her internship at St. Lukes Hospital and her residency at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. She knew from an early age that she would one day become a physician. She had her dermatology practice in Columbia, SC for over 45 years where her patients became part of her family. Barbara was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, aunt, friend and physician. She was an active member of Shandon Baptist Church. Her faith was deep, and she depended on it daily - she found great joy in sharing God's love with those surrounding her. Additionally, she had a vast love for music, especially the piano. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband Mark Ullman, Sr.; her parents, Clarence and Mabel Brown; and her brother Alvin Brown. Barbara is survived by her son Mark (Elizabeth) Ullman, Jr of Lexington, SC; Livy (Mike) McLoughlin of Alpharetta, GA; her most favorite of all, four precious grandchildren: Wills, Scott Thomas, Michael and Ellie Grace; and her brother Douglas (Duffy) Brown of Greenville, SC; In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association: P.O. Box 96011 Washington, D.C. 20090-6011. The family wishes to extend their most sincere gratitude to Lexington Extended Care and Compassionate Care Hospice for the support and kindness in her final days.
