Delbert E Hill

Delbert (Del) E Hill passed away Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the age of 90 in Columbia, SC. Born on May 27, 1924 in Coffeyville, KS, he was the son of the late Frank F. Hill and Linnie Kendall. Graveside services will be held at a later date.

Mr. Hill proudly served in the USMC during WWII on the USS Saratoga in the South Pacific. While working at the Coop Refinery, he was a member of the Safety Department, worked as an operating engineer and served as the AFL-CIO union representative. He served as a Deacon and the Chairman of Deacons at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Del lived the life he represented at the church. Also, he served as the leader of the Royal Ambassadors youth group at the church. He loved fishing, golfing, traveling and camping. After retirement, he visited all 50 states and Canadian Provinces.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Bonnie Hill, currently residing in Columbia, SC; son, Barry (Karin) Hill of Columbia, SC; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Hill (husband deceased son, David) of Austin, TX; granddaughters, Lisa (Charles) D'Andrade - Austin, TX; Kimberly (Anthony) Guardiano, and Patricia (Brian) Crawford, all of Virginia Beach, VA; great-grandchildren, Makenzie Crawford, and Brooke, Riley and Chase D'Andrade. Del was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eugene Hill and Donald Hill; sons, David Hill and Dan Hill.
