A funeral service for Charles Junior Harris, of Columbia, will be held at 12pm on Monday, January 12, 2015 at Seacoast Church, 631 Sparkleberry Ln, Columbia, SC 29229. Burial will follow the service at Fort Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends 2hrs prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oliver Gospel Mission.
Charles passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the age of 80. Born on June 29, 1934 in Athens, TN, he was the son of the late Alvie and Myrtle Harris. He joined the military in 1953, serving his country in Germany, Italy, Korea, Vietnam and various stateside assignments, retiring in 1974. In civilian life he became successful owning several businesses throughout his life. He was a true gentleman, never meeting a stranger. He will be truly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helga; children, Heidi Murray, Linda Harris, Mark (Leslie) Harris, and Matthew (Michele) Harris; grandchildren, Angi Strasshofer, SueAnn (Raymond) Sweatman, Megan Harris, Charles “Chase” Harris, Jennifer Harris, and Amber (Justin) Redman; numerous great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; brothers, Clifford, Jimmy, Edward, Don, Loyd, and Randal; sisters, Carzell Dyer, Edna Gobel, Ivagene Winkler, Wilma Southerland, Lois Harris, Brenda Ross, Carolyn Worley, and Janice Silvers; close friends, Lotti and David Prigge.
