Charles D. Hackett Sr., was born to the late John D. and Margaret Rhea Hackett on November 27, 1925.
Charles early years were spent growing up in Cedar Bluff, Alabama, where he attended Elementary and High School and trained in Auto Mechanics.
Charles was a World War II Veteran where he served in the Phillipines, from 1944 to 1946. After being discharged, he returned to East Chicago, IN and went to work for Inland Steel Mill Company as a switchman, where he retired after over 40 years of service.
Charles met and married the love of his life Dorothy Hackett and to this union three children were born.
God called Charles home on March 29, 2017, where he was surrounded by family. He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife Dorothy and children, Darren Deandre Hack- ett of Hammond, IN; Margaret Major and special son-in-law Chris Major, of Columbia, SC, Charles Hackett Jr. of Ingle- wood, CA, Wayne Hackett (Cheryl) of Indianapolis, IN; Derrick Hackett (Myrna) of Hammond, IN; Toni Chandler, Liona Bryant, Kim Bates of Merrillville, IN; Freda King of Indian Head, MD; Michelle Williams (Leroy) of Cali.; two step-daughters Leontyne Peterson of Indianapolis, IN and Gail Coty of Las Vegas. Charles had 38 Grand Children and 75 Great GrandChildren and one brother-in-law Kelvin Geelpat and two sisters-in-law Nora and Jerleon Martinof Gary, IN, and a host of Nephews and Nieces, cousins and friends who will dearly miss him.
