Carolina A. Lea

The funeral service for Mrs. Carolina A. Lea will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 28,2018, at Northeast Presbyterian Church, 601 Polo Road, Columbia, SC, 29223 (https://nepresbyterian.org).  Visitation will be immediately beforehand in the church atrium beginning at 1:00 P.M.
Carolina Ayala was born January 21, 1924 in Waelder, TX. She passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018. Carolina was the daughter of Mr. Guillermo and Mrs. Margarita Ayala.She survived the death of her two marriages – Mr. Robert Howard Carruthers (Mary’s Father) and Mr. Jerry Malcolm Lea, both of Greensboro, NC. Her professional career consisted as serving as acredit manager for Bridges Furniture Company and Automotive Fastners.  She also served as amember of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rose Chapter No. 178, Greensboro, NC, and as a non-active member per her retirement when she relocated to Columbia, SC to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren.Carolina was a member of Northeast Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC., where she actively served as a volunteer nursery worker for many years. Her heart and character always shined around serving children.
Carolina was preceded in death by her siblings, Mr.Saragosa Ayala, Mrs. Aurora “Dora” Wilson, Mrs. Concepcion Sepulveda, and Mrs. Consuello “Chello” Sanchez.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter,Mrs. Mary Leigh;son-in-law, Mr. Buck Leigh who both reside in Columbia, SC; grandchildren Mrs. Lisa Davis of Mount Pleasant, SC and Dr. Amanda Hess of Lake Spivey, GA, their spouses, Mr. Ernie Davis and Dr. Jeremy Hess; her beloved great grandchildren Mr. Zachary Davis, Miss Emily Davis, Miss Alyssa Hess, and Mr. Gabriel Hess; hersiblings,Mr. Augustin “Augie” Ayala, Mrs. Alvarita “Rita” Ayala both of Houston, TX; and Beatriz “Patsy” Estrada of Flatonia, TX; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In Lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial gifts to Northeast Presbyterian Church, 601 Polo Road, Columbia, SC,29223.
