Carol Lea (McElhaney) Badal

A service to celebrate the life of Carol Lea McElhany Badal, 81, of Columbia formerly of Charlotte, NC will be held 11:00 am Monday May 2, 2016 at Living Savior Lutheran Church, 6817 Carmel Road, Charlotte, NC 28226. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Sunday May 1, 2016 at Kornegay & Moseley, 4645 Hard Scrabble Road, Columbia SC 29229. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one of Carol's favorite charities  -  SmileTrain, P.O. Box 96231, Washington DC 20090-6231; Lutheran Family Services of the Carolinas, 1416 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave, PO Box 947, Salisbury, NC 28145; or Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, Utah 84741-5000.
Carol went home to heaven to be with the lord on April 21, 2016. She was born in Hannibal, Missouri and was the daughter of the late Irma and George McElhany and sister of the late Shirley Byers. She is also survived by her sister-in-laws, Charlotte Wynegar and Donna Badal and her brother-in-law, Robert "Bob" Badal. Carol was raised in Decatur, Illinois and attended the University of Illinois, in Champaign-Urbana  where she received her degree in Business Administration. Carol was a long time member of Incarnation and Living Savior Lutheran Churches. Carol had a love for animals and she loved the beauty of the mountains and taught us the appreciation of original art and music.   
Carol was a dedicated wife, mother, nama and friend and is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Herb Badal, and their three children, "M",  Ann, & Kathryn; three grandchildren, Lance, Lyndsey and Saul. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members, the ones that are blood related and the ones we have chosen to be a part of our family over the years. 
The memory of Carol will always be in our hearts. Her love, generosity and beauty inside and out will never be forgotten.
