  Barbara was born October 12, 1932 in Vandalia, Illinois. She attended grade school and High School in Greenville, Illinois. She then attended Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH and the latter two years attended Millikin University, DeCatur, IL where she earned a BA degree, certified to teach grades 1 thru 8.
  She began her teaching career in Janesville, WI in the fall of 1954. It was here she met her husband, Charles who was on active duty, USAF, Williams Bay, WI. They were married October 29,1955. 
Barbara was a kind, loving and faithful woman with a fervent devotion to The Blessed Mother, Mary.  She was a member of St. John Neumann's Catholic Church, Columbia, SC. She made pilgrimages to Guadalupe, Lourdes, Rome and three trips to Medjugorje.
  For many years her summers were spent on Cape Cod, MA. While on the Cape she became an accomplished artist capturing the beauty of the ocean on canvas.  She was a gourmet cook and on occasion would prepare a seven course French dinner. 
  Barbara enjoyed playing the piano, guitar, ukulele, piccolo and flute, Other hobbies include painting ocean scenes, golf, trap shooting, deer hunting and gardening.  She pursued these hobbies for most of the first 50 of her 60 years of married life. 
  She is preceded in death by her parents Raymon and Rosalie Genre.  She is survived by her husband Charles, her five children; Mark (Carmen) Cotter, Mike Cotter, Cynthia Cotter, Matthew (Connie) Cotter and Patrick (Valerie) Cotter.  She also leaves behind nine grandchildren.
  A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon, Wednesday, August 17, 2016 --St. John Neumann's church, 100 Polo Rd. Columbia, SC.
Inurnment will follow at a later date in Montello, Wi
