A funeral service for Alva Frederick Chavis, of Elgin, will be held at 2pm on Sunday, March 22, 2015 in the chapel of Kornegay & Moseley.
Mr. Chavis passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the age of 77. Born in Columbia, SC on February 24, 1938 he was the son of the late Morgan C. Chavis and Getha A. Chavis. He was a hard-working man who was devoted to his family. Alva served in the Army during the Korean War with the 101st Paratroopers.
He is survived by his children, Alva Carl Chavis, Dale Lionel Chavis, Lisa Ronda Sayas, Michael Scott Hood, Cathy Miller, Cary Morgan Chavis, Amanda Fay Chavis, Stacy Rae Chavis, Kim McQuiston, Karen Goff, Tina Sawyer, Marty Rollison, Randy Rollison, and Dean Rollison; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Royce Chavis from Beaufort and Wandafay Wessinger from Cayce. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Becky Chavis and son, Royce Chavis; siblings, Carl Chavis, Ronny Chavis, and Opal Dunn.
